Solemnizer Extraordinaire

COMING SOON: SOLEMNIZER.COM and SOLEMNIZE.US

Self-Promotional Quickie:

Hey I'm a funny(*), secular, divorced guy with a handful of solemnizations of weddings under my belt, no fear of public speaking, and cheap rates. If you need a solemnizer to say the words, then I'm your man!

  • Need a ceremony in a jiffy? Just give me an hour and I can probably figure out how to get there!
  • Want some custom ceremony with a bunch of your own stuff woven in, original research done, and stuff like that? Let's get coffee and go over some stuff, or we can just collaborate online!
  • I know experienced photographers! Real ones with crazy electronics and websites and stuff, I can refer some if you don't have one yet.

Minimal and easy or well-thought and personal, email me at mfg@nomfg.com and we'll get you married.

Kristin said there are some people out there that just need some person to stand there and solemnize them. I've been at it a few years, had a great time with the ones I've done whether they wanted a ceremony heavy on details or one that was quick and painless.

Anyway, if you or someone you know needs a Reverend in the Church of Whatever (Universal Ministeries to be specific), I have a certificate from the internets and am ready to hitch some folks.

(* I think I'm funny anyway)

Dreamsfood Recipes are locked, Voting has begun!

Hey,

Sorry if the volume of posts has diminished slightly. Hopefully the breadth of the cookies recipes will keep you occupied. However, I am also busy kicking out the Dreamsfood.org project. If you are in the Columbus area and would like to get involved in this Voting Cycle, head over to Voting.Dreamsfood.Org to get your feet wet.

Brief Synopsis:

  • Dreamsfood - A Cooking Cooperative and Dinner Club
  • What happens - We vote on cook-submitted experimental recipes, and contribute money to a bounty. The cook with the highest voted recipe cards gets the bounty which is then used to buy ingredients or equipment to prepare the meal for the voting community
  • Happening Now - We are Voting on 7 awesome recipes
  • How to vote - Donate to the Bounty, receive a link by email to a Voting Ballot; come to the Dinner!

So the first Dreamsfood Bounty has been announced, Vegan Comfort Food. Everybody wants it right about now, and you're all going to need it in a few weeks, so let's get some planning down and get our collective wheels spinning.

  • If you have a recipe and would like to join in and participate, email a recipe card to recipes@dreamsfood.org and get on board!
  • If you want to vote and participate in the bounty and the dinner, email me at mfg@dreamsfood.org so I can invite you to the facebook group and get you all signed up

Even Mitt is getting in on it!We have a few subdomains right now, first there is the parent site Dreamsfood.org , and then we've also got:

  • voting.dreamsfood.org - host site for the recipe cards, head on over and check out what we've got going; recipe deadline is December 4, 2011, voting starts December 5 (again, email recipes@dreamsfood.org if you want a card posted for looking over!)
  • calendar.dreamsfood.org - contains the bounty board and the upcoming voting cycle schedule and the dinner meetup
  • docs.dreamsfood.org - not much here yet, might be used for spreadsheets and illustrations, or an archive of recipe cards

#100: the Dreamsfood

APR0N #100, AN ANNOUNCEMENT:

Were you curious about how | the | Grilled Macaroni & Cheese Sandwich would turn out? Rather, if it would? Or did you ask yourself, why should it?

A Cook, as with anyone, does not exist in a vacuum. A Cook is subject to the same pressures of hours-in-the-day, dollars-in-a-paycheck, and space-in-the-kitchen as anyone else.

It is my intention to at least help help lessen the pressure of one of those factors.

The high overhead of both cooking materials and equipment means that frequently a burgeoning cook is unable to move very far beyond the borders of the repertoire; a Cook is passively discouraged from making any more than modest alterations to his or her already successful recipes.

I want to change this.

There should instead be a reward for innovative and experimental thinking that goes beyond one or two standard deviations from the limits of what is "safe"

Since not all of us have test kitchens or advances from publishers, Dreamsfood is meant to help. Dreamsfood.org will consist of member-driven communities that will invest in the development of cooks and the local food-culture.

Over the next few weeks, testing will begin with the following model in a limited alpha group:

  1. Cooks submit recipes for voting (R)
  2. Winning recipe(s) earn a cash bounty established by community (B)
  3. Cook prepares recipe for member community (D)

I look forward to sharing the results of the development of this model at www.dreamsfood.org along with all of the backend details. Once we have established a solid model for groups to work with, I hope that this model will spread. The dreamsfood.org page will start as a developments blog, and eventually evolve into a more robust launcher.

How can you be involved? Well, it's about testing the waters right now so we're trying to drum up support and interest;

  1. Head to nomfg.com/dreamsfood and check out the initial charter; feel free to leave comments
  2. Head to www.dreamsfood.org and follow us (RSS/Tumblr)
  3. Head to twitter and follow us @cookcoopcbus
  4. Head to the facebook and like it.

If you are interested in participating or other input,

send correspondence to mfg@dreamsfood.org or leave comments below.

new tattoo idea. (nxt-lvl Ohirony)

so the whole time i was watching the portland timbers play the columbus crew i wanted an 'ohio 'til i die' t-shirt. or an ohio tattoo. i think i may have created something better than either.

i know it could be smoothed around the edges, and by freehand it would be.

i trust to any tatters that they will drop me a comment if anyone is unlikely enough to get this done.

Go see Bill Callahan at Wexner tonight (8p, Hidden Ritual opening), it'll be the total shit

Former Smog'gist Bill Callahan will be performing at the Wexner Center for the Arts tonight.

This week and next are pretty packed as far as shows go for all of you in Columbus. Sure you might be in a luckier market, but we can't the better be the enemy of the good.

So, are you down with getting down in the down?

He's currently supporting his own Apocalypse. That is, he released a new album in 2011, but his solo catalog goes back four albums deep to 2007; as Smog it goes 11 albums deep back to 1990. I have inattentatively heard his work on and off for about the past 15 years then, and am really looking forward to basically seeing a chapter of 1990s-2000s on stage. And, Apocalypse is good. Really good. Enthralling and expansive and shimmering at times; tense and terse and cathartic at others. Apocalypse now, rather tonight after 8p, on North High Street. Watch for fifteen bucks.

A few details about the album for the sake of convincing you to go to the show: it's less blues'ed down than you might expect, certainly not expecting a Songs:Ohia or Bonnie Prince Billy show (I'm guessing a bit more like Lambchop), it has a lot of nerve to it and a rawness to where there does lie some blues and I fullly hope to hear it getting banged out over and over. I fully expect a great performer though, no matter what tone the show takes.
